Expectations
What you can expect. A timeline for injury survivors. What happens in my case and when?
First 60 days after retaining Pritzker Ruohonen & Associates, P.A.
- Conduct investigation, interview witnesses, obtain police reports, obtain photos of the scene and the involved vehicles
- Notify insurance companies of our firm's involvement
- Submit no-fault application and supporting documents
- Collect medical records and bills
- Make sure client is receiving appropriate health care
- Help, if necessary, with property damage claims
- Make sure all no-fault payments are made by the insurance company
- Frequent updates with client to ensure things are going smoothly
- Explore and research additional theories of recovery
- Obtain photographs of scars
Days 61-240
- Monitor medical treatment; make referrals as necessary
Coordinate with the no-fault carrier; ensure benefits are paid - Frequent updates with clients
- Continue to collect and review medical records
- Compile data regarding amount of lost wages and medical bills
- Identify and meet with expert witnesses
- Provide information to insurance carriers so that the case is adequately reserved
- Meet with treating doctors to obtain interim reports
- Identify lay witnesses regarding damage issues
- Obtain no-fault payout sheets; Commence no-fault arbitration as necessary
Days 240-365
- Continue tasks from days 1-240
- Meet with treating doctors to obtain final reports
- Update special damages computations
- Take current pictures depicting scars and other injuries
- Acquire reports from other expert witnesses
- Meet with client to get full and complete information regarding effect of injuries on personal life, work and recreational activities
- Meet with and get statements from friends, family members and co-workers regarding effect of injuries on client
- If necessary, have client evaluated by vocational expert to determine future wage loss and cost of retraining
- In appropriate cases, write, direct and edit "day in the life" video depicting client's losses
- Prepare settlement brochure using all of the data collected in previous steps
- Commence settlement negotiations with insurance company
Days 365-600
- Obtain maximum settlement or place matter in suit
- Engage in written discovery, or fact-finding process, consisting of the preparation and exchange of information with the insurance company's lawyers
- Take the defendant's deposition
- Prepare for and attend the plaintiff's deposition
- Initiate and participate in court-ordered alternative dispute resolution
- Continue settlement negotiations
- Prepare for trial
- Conduct jury trial
